Journeys of Resilience:

Real Stories of Change

Walkers and Crutches

Our most requested items are wheelchairs, tub benches, shower chairs, and bedside commodes. We don’t get a lot of requests for walkers or crutches and they tend to pile up. Thanks to one of our volunteers, we delivered 105 walkers and 95 pairs of crutches to Samaritan Purse’s WorldWide Medical Warehouse in North Wilkesboro. Thanks to this wonderful volunteer, we were able to use our excess to fill a void in other parts of the world where walkers and crutches are hard to come by.

Grandmother in Pain

For many patients there is a gap in insurance, often as they approach Medicare age. This woman came to us in a great deal of pain. Her mobility was limited as walking more than 100 feet was difficult or impossible. She suffered a lot of pain, including knee and back pain. We provided a high capacity rollator, that can be hard to find and is fairly expensive. So now she can still get out there to spend time with her grandchildren and enjoy other aspects of her life. Her smile tells it all. It's great giving hope and support to those in need!

Pedestrian Hit by a Car

A pedestrian hit by a car suffered several injuries and was initially unable to walk. Like so many others in our community, he did not have medical insurance to pay for any medical equipment that he needed to be safe at home. He was so grateful to be able to get a wheelchair and bedside commode from Assist ME and was able to leave the hospital and go home with his family.

Uber Driver

In June of 2023, an Uber driver was hit by a drunk driver and experienced a life-altering accident paralyzing him from the waist down. At the request of his medical team, Assist ME provided him with a bed, lift, and transfer board to aid his rehabilitation. Now, he can focus on healing.

Elderly Resident at Huntersville Oaks

When an elderly resident of Huntersville Oaks could not afford repairs to her power scooter, she became confined to her room. A friend searched for a discounted replacement online and discovered Assist ME, which then delivered a wheelchair to the resident. The new wheelchair significantly improved her quality of life. She was on cloud nine!

Jamaican Para-Olympic Archer

Acee Green, Jamaica's first Para-Olympic archer, earned one of the country's first international medals at the Caribbean Development Championships. Born with spina bifida and scoliosis, Acee shows us that limitations exist only in our minds. Assist ME provided a wheelchair and Roho cushion, equipment not funded by the Jamaican Paralympic Committee.
