When Jewel Wilson joined Assist ME as a remote receptionist in December 2024, none of us expected her to become such an essential part of the team so quickly. What began as a short-term commitment turned into something she chose to continue, simply because she cared — about the mission, about the callers, and about the people behind every request for help.
Jewel started with Assist ME in December 2024 and took her first official phone shift on December 31st. From the beginning, she brought a calm, steady presence to every call. She listens closely, responds with patience and clarity, and makes sure each person feels supported. Her dependability has become a quiet anchor for the team; if a caller needs information, she finds it. If a question comes in after her shift, she still makes sure it gets answered. She notices needs, she notices people, and she steps in without being asked.
Assist ME board members describe her as deeply kind and genuinely passionate about helping clients, someone who goes the extra mile to solve mobility challenges and make sure callers feel heard. That care shows up in every interaction — not in grand gestures, but in the consistent, thoughtful way she approaches each conversation.
When she learned she had been selected as Volunteer of the Quarter, her response reflected exactly who she is: humble, grateful, and focused on the mission rather than herself.
“I really enjoy my job at Assist ME NC because it makes me feel good to be part of an organization that helps people who can’t otherwise afford the medical equipment they need and seeing that there are so many equipment donors who feel the same,” said Jewel. “Thank you for making me part of the team.”
Jewel, thank you for choosing to stay, choosing to serve, and choosing to bring your kindness to every caller who reaches out for help. Assist ME is stronger because you are part of this mission!
