From anticipation to gratitude, our first Wheels & Walker-thon was an incredible success! We’re so thankful for everyone who showed up, supported, and cheered us on—this community made it happen. The numbers speak for themselves: fun mascot naming votes, lively peer-to-peer fundraising, and so many memorable moments. Our awesome volunteer photographers captured it all—from setup with our 40+ board members and volunteers, to the Water & Wellness “outpost” stations, to the last goodbyes. Highlights included kids and adults enjoying bubbles, local food vendors, and the scenic walk around the lake. One standout: a 95-year-old participant who embodied our mission by walking or rolling as she was able.

Attendees voted for their favorite cartoon mascots—Wheelin’ Willy, Steady Eddie, and Lola the Rolla—and congrats to Nikitha C. for winning our mascot contest drawing! Fundraising was a blast, too: a $2,000 matching gift from Amy & Howard Landers kicked things off, and the Wheels to Heal team led by Natalie Brush raised $4,280 to win the Assist ME party chair. With 185 supporters and sponsors, we raised over $23,000—everyone’s a winner!
We’re grateful to our sponsors for their energy and giveaways, and to Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation for hosting us at Park Road Park—an accessible, welcoming venue. If you donated over $100 and haven’t received your embroidered cap, email Jolyn at deveop@assistmenc.com to arrange pickup.
Mark your calendar: Wheels & Walker-thon returns on September 12, 2026! Thank you for buying tickets, donating, and spreading the word. We can’t wait to roll forward together. For more event photos, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn!
