Assist ME Welcomes First Staff Member

Assist ME is proud to welcome Nancy Collins as the organization’s first part-time staff member—an important milestone for a nonprofit that has been 100% volunteer-led since 2014. As Assist ME continues to grow and expand its reach into neighboring communities, this new role reflects both the rising demand for services and the organization’s commitment to building a strong operational foundation for the future.

Nancy is already a familiar and valued part of the Assist ME community. She began volunteering in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, after discovering the organization through VolunteerMatch. She and her son, who lives with intellectual and developmental disabilities, started assisting with equipment pick-ups and deliveries. “It sounded like a great way for us to contribute to the community, and I wanted to be able to support my son so that he can get out into the world,” she shared.

Her professional background makes her an exceptional fit for the Operations Manager role, which oversees warehouse operations, inventory systems, volunteer coordination, client support, and process improvement. Nancy is a Certified Quality Engineer with decades of experience in quality engineering, process control, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, auditing, and continuous improvement. She has trained teams, built workflows, and developed systems designed to improve performance and streamline operations—skills that translate directly to Assist ME’s growing needs.

What stands out most about Nancy is the way she connects her professional expertise with the mission of Assist ME. Her experience as a caregiver gives her a personal understanding of the value of the equipment the organization provides, and she brings that perspective to her new role with empathy and purpose. “I wanted a role that was relevant to my background but also relevant to my heart,” she explained.

In her interview, Nancy described herself as someone who notices gaps and finds ways to bridge them—a mindset that will be invaluable as Assist ME strengthens and scales its operations. As Jack Sheehan, Founder and President of Assist ME, noted, “Nancy’s inspiration, experience, and eagerness to find and bridge gaps is exactly what Assist ME needs to not only streamline our operations, but be able to duplicate it as we expand our footprint.”

Nancy’s arrival marks more than a staffing change. It represents Assist ME’s continued growth, a deepening of its mission, and a celebration of the people who make that mission possible. We are thrilled to welcome her to the team and excited for all she will bring to this next chapter of enhancing lives through mobility.
